About Stewardship & Cooperative Program (CP)

Our Mission To Colorado Baptists

Our mission is to assist in developing Biblical Stewards within the local congregation and to help churches accomplish their own stewardship goals for the work of the Kingdom.

-We can assist through consultations, resources, and conferences by providing helpful information, resources, and links to facilitate your research.

-We can assist you in understanding how Cooperative Program (CP) Missions enables your church to channel monies through our denominational network of mission enterprises. The understanding of CP and participation in this mission giving will assist your church in becoming an energetic arm of your Acts 1:8 vision.

2012 Colorado Missions Offering, in Honor of Nicy Murphy

From the President of the Colorado Baptists:

Colorado Pastors,

Let me take a moment to remind you of the great privilege we have.

Colorado is a land blessed!  We ski snow covered mountains, raft the mighty Colorado river, and enjoy soothing hot springs.  From the green of the trees to the shine of the ice, we see the splendor of scene-altering water everywhere.

How many people come to Colorado and only see that splendor?  How many people never see the Creator that knows of every drop that has fallen? How many will see that water but miss the living water?

Church makes 'Radical' change, raises $97,000 for World Missions Offering

The following story was written anonymously and without naming the church involved to point all the glory and praise to God for what transpired.

What would happen, if we stopped asking how much we could spare and started asking how much it was going to take?

After one church’s leadership read the book “Radical” by David Platt, they challenged their church and asked this question found on page 130. In doing so, they hoped to increase awareness and ownership of the responsibility and opportunity to reach the nations with the good news of Jesus through missions giving.

Prints of Richard Marks' "Mountain Grandeur" Available

At the 2011 Annual Meeting, Colorado Baptists presented Nicy Murphy with a reproduction of Mountain Grandeur, a painting by Richard Marks.

Entitled “Mountain Grandeur” the painting by Richard Marks captures the most famous mountain in Colorado – Pikes Peak, early one morning; the sun behind, shining on the grand mountain peak.

This awe-inspiring painting depicts a portion of Nicy Murphy’s writings where she sees those people in Colorado who, “live in the midst of mountain grandeur, but who never lift their “eyes unto the hills” from whence their help might come.”

2011 Colorado Missions Offering- Nicy Murphy Offering Review

by CBGC Staff

“It is exciting to see the way Colorado Baptists have responded to the Colorado Missions Offering - Nicy Murphy Offering in a time of economic challenge,” Mark Edlund said in response to the $155,259.21 amount given for the 2011 Colorado Mission Offering.

“God has given us a vision of seeing the State saturated with the Gospel – everyone in the State and passing through the State will have an opportunity to hear the Gospel in such a way they can respond.  (2 Peter 3:9) One of our most strategic tools in addressing this challenging vision is the annual Colorado Missions Offering collected in honor of Nicy Murphy. This has been a special year as we celebrated Nicy’s 100th birthday.  She now lives in Oklahoma and continues to minister.  What a hero of the faith! On behalf of Colorado Baptists I want to thank those that gave generous contributions to the offering.  The funds will truly advance the Kingdom in our great State of Colorado.”

Embrace Conference: Embrace the Ends of the Earth

Wheat Ridge, Colo.

By Kaylee Looney

“God has put it in the hearts of churches to not just support missionaries, but to be missionaries.” – Steven Roach, Bambara Strategy Coordinator, Mali

Thirty three churches were challenged to “embrace the ends of the earth” on November 4th during International Mission Board’s Embrace Conference located at Applewood Baptist Church in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

IMB Offering Makes a Difference

By Kaylee Looney

Meet these three Colorado Residents whom your International Mission Board offering has impacted:

Sherry Johnston*, Littleton, Colo.

“Not everyone is able to go overseas,” Sherry said, “ but we can all play a role in taking the Gospel to the nations by giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.”

Sherry was raised in a Southern Baptist Church and had grown up familiar with the IMB. She was first introduced to the mission field when a missionary spoke about his work in Brazil. It wasn’t until college that she started praying about the possibility of serving overseas.

Baptist Foundation of Colorado Activities

This has been a year of strengthening partnerships and building relationships.

We are encouraging our churches and associations to invest their “designated” and excess monies in our Church Loans Funds (CLIFs and PLIFs) which currently earn more interest than commercially available money market funds. This helps our ministries greatly in this low interest rate environment. We have 30 investment instruments (CLIFs) now earning our ministries 1.9-2.0%, and 12 investment instruments (PLIFs) now earning 2.1-2.6% fixed for 1 to 3 years.

Your Most Important Conversation

Let me start this article by admitting that it has nothing to do with finances, but it has a lot to do with our Spiritual and physical health as we serve in ministry positions and I don’t just mean “paid” positions, but also volunteer ministry positions. The catch phrase that has been rolling around in my circle of friends recently is “how are your margins?” This phrase asks, are you giving yourself some time for relaxation or are you burning the candle on both ends and in the middle all the time? I have just completed reading a number of articles and in doing so I want to ask you a couple of questions, “Are we having our most important conversation?” and “Are we having it on a consistent basis?”

Let me first of all say that these questions are not referring to your quiet time. I bet you thought that this was where I was going, no, even though that is very important. I have been challenged to engage in a conversation with my Lord on a consistent basis. I have been doing it mostly on Friday. It is the one day that I can spend some extended time with God. Remember what the Psalmist said in 139:23, “search me, O God, and know my heart!” I have said that and then gone merrily on my way. Maybe God searched me, but I never listened to what he found, so it was a waste of time.

New law changes rules on deducting charitable gifts

By Don Spencer

On Aug. 17, President Bush signed into law the Pension Protection Act of 2006. This law addresses a number of key pension issues. But also included in the bill were some significant provisions that will affect charitable giving.

There is one provision that will affect many church members' ability to claim a tax deduction for their charitable giving, starting in 2007. Donations of cash no longer will be deductible unless the donor has a canceled check, bank record or a receipt from the recipient listing the organization's name, date and the amount of the contribution.
