Steve Hoekstra
Steve Hoekstra, pronounced "HOOK straw" is the Team Leader of Resort Church Planting and Director of the Western Colorado Office for the Colorado Baptist Convention in Montrose. He is the State Director of Missions for Western Colorado. He has had many years of service as Minister of Youth, Pastor and Church Planter, and for over 30 years he has worked with the Home Mission Board/North American Mission Board as a consultant for ministries and church growth in resort areas of Colorado. Steve has been a facilitator for the Basic Training Journey for Church Planters for many years. He also does worshops for the Next Level Leadership Network both in Colorado and through out the US. He started Alpine Resort Ministries and for 17 years directed the Student Volunteer Ministry Program for the CBC. This program brought about 75 college students each summer to assist churches in ministry.
Steve helped create Recreational Alpine Adventure Trips (RAAT Patrol), the CBC backpacking program. He directed this program for 20 years. RAAT Patrol was a six day backpacking expedition for youth, college students and adults with specialized programs for couples and an all ladies trip.
Born in Denver, he has lived in Colorado except for his college experience. Hobbies include: fishing, skiing, reading, hiking, hunting, buckskinning (reenactments of the Western fur trading era), and just about anything outdoors.
Steve graduated from Loveland High School. He began college at Mesa College in Grand Junction. Being the highly motivated person that he is, he crammed all four years of his undergraduate degree into ten -- supplementing his formal education with large doses of reality. During that time he was a ski instructor, a ranch hand, a heavy equipment operator for Colorado State University, a life guard, and held many other construction related jobs. His undergraduate degree is from Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, AZ. He has audited postgraduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, but his degree is in "Human Inertia from the Star Fleet Academy on Rigel Four" (just kidding).
