Women in Your Church Need You

I was so pumped! Beth Moore was coming to Colorado Springs and the thought of 8500 women squeezing into the World Arena seemed unimaginable just 9 months earlier, but it became reality in May 2008. The power of the Word, of prayer and of the Holy Spirit was evident. I walked away from my assignment as City Coordinator fully ecstatic at what God had done.
Then my bubble popped. A dear brother in Christ reminded me that women right in front of me at my own home church were hurting and needed help. As piercing as reality was, he was right.
Women’s Ministry is all around me. It’s all around you too. From the young woman serving you a latte at the coffee shop secretly struggling with eating issues to a bitter co-worker seeking security in who she is, to an elderly woman battling the war of her life as she fights cancer….ministry opportunities are sometimes too numerous to list.
While I love planning an event just like the next women’s ministry leader (who doesn’t like a party?), take a moment in your next women’s ministry meeting to think about one on one needs that need to be met in your church. Maybe it is writing a card to encourage someone struggling with self-doubt… maybe it is providing food for a family struggling to makes ends meet during unemployment… maybe it is visiting a new mom or playing cards during a chemo session with a cancer challenger.
Dear sister, Jesus was the best example of one-on-one ministry. We know Jesus healed a blind man, restored lives and hung out with people that probably wouldn’t have a popular Facebook or Twitter following today.
Sometimes it’s the little things that can change lives the most….one woman, one opportunity at a time.
