Ministry Charades

Remember playing charades? My husband and I were playing charades with a group of friends one night. As we separated women against men, “the girls” were eager for a victory. With each card, we hopelessly waved our arms and acted out creatures and movie titles. Until our brains clicked, it seemed like a weird tribal dance more than a theatrical display. Yet, sometimes, that’s what women’s ministry feels like. We are trying to figure out what will minister to women in our church.
Are you at that point? Here are three quick ideas for figuring out ministry needs:
  1. You’ll play charades better with your team mates if you know how they think and act. In order to know how to minister to them, you need to be around them. Don’t hang out with the “usual” crowd. Interact with different stages and ages of women to know just how they tick.
  2. You’ll never know the answer if you don’t ask. Just as you blurt out the possibilities in charades, ask women what they like and how they want to be involved. You can do this in person or through a survey. Some will prefer a paper survey, while those more computer savvy may appreciate an electronic survey.
  3. Ask your pastor and ministry leaders. Develop an advisory board with ministry leaders and/or women representing different seasons of life.
