God at Work Across Colorado

One of the blessings of working at the Colorado Baptists’ convention office is getting to see the reports coming in from across the state that tell what God is doing through Christians dedicated to Him in sharing the Gospel of Christ in a variety of ministries. Colorado is made up of many cultures and it takes a lot of prayer and stepping out in faith to share Christ and meet needs in these diverse people groups. These ministries encompass Christian Challenge ministries to students on Colorado’s university and college campuses, food and clothing ministries, house churches and small group studies, new church plants and churches that have been around a while.

Eleven of the reports I received in the past couple of months give information about the 360 people who have taken part in these ministries. Twenty-eight new believers received Christ during this time. Spiritual, emotional and physical needs are being met. Relationships are being developed with communities and several outreach activities have been hosted with more planned in 2010. Leaders are being developed and discipled. Relationship building is one of the most significant aspects of these ministries. Classes for new believers, gatherings of non-believers, food distribution, special meals, coffee/cocoa handout in the community, small group Bible studies, music classes, preschool/children & youth ministries are just some of the ways these groups are reaching the lost for Christ.

The main request from all of these leaders is prayer. There are many needs: facilities to meet in, financial resources, strength, spiritual and numerical growth, wisdom, food and clothing for distribution, opportunities to build relationships in the communities, new small group starts, hearts to be open to accepting Christ, family members who need employment and two families reached by these ministries who are suffering the loss of children, one to cancer and another at birth.

Just as it is a joy to watch a baby grow and become the person God intended him/her to be, it is a joy to see a new church or new believer grow, affecting the lives of all those around them. Just as we love and nurture and provide for a baby as it grows, we also need to join together to love, nurture and provide for these “baby” churches and ministries so that they, too, may grow and thrive and reach the lost for Christ.
