Remembering Baby Molly

In only a few months, Baby Molly has blessed so many lives. Brad, a church planter in Denver, and his wife Haley were blessed just a few months ago to have their second child. Brad and Haley named their cute little baby girl Molly. Unfortunately, she was born with a severe problem with her digestive system. The only hope for survival was for Molly to receive a transplant of major organs in her digestive system. A few days ago Brad and Haley got put on a transplant list and Sunday, November 2 they got the call that a donor was available. They flew up to Omaha where the transplant was to be done. However, there was a complication during the surgery and Molly did not make it.

The Hovis' believed to be so incredibly blessed to have had almost 3 months with their little girl. God’s grace has been clear to them and they are joyful for all His work in her life. Haley and Brad are back in Denver now and have made arrangements for Molly's funeral. A memorial service will be held on Friday (11/7) at 4pm at the Tivoli Student Union on Auraria Campus in the Turnhalle room. The address is 900 Auraria Pkwy, Denver, CO 80204.

People have asked the Hovis family what they can do for them. Listed below are some ways you may bless Brad and Haley, as well as help them remember Baby Molly:

  • Prepare a meal. Brad can be reached at 720-318-9423
  • Flowers for the funeral are definitely appropriated. The contact person is Cynthia Mulliniks and her phone number is (720) 217-3183.

A Mansion of Hope in Denver's Capitol Hill

Brad and Haley Hovis remain "Kingdom-minded" while visiting Baby Molly each day in the hospital. The story below is a reminder and shares the hope the Hovis family had and the blessing their shared with Baby Molly.

During the week of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), no one could miss the limos and tour buses dropping off delegates and VIPS at the Colorado Governor’s mansion for cocktail parties and political speeches and historical lectures of Denver’s “Unsinkable Molly Brown.” Less than a block away, a small century old duplex was a mansion of hope – where church vans would drop off volunteers with sack lunches for rest and prayer for another Molly who’s not yet come home.

Brad and Haley Hovis moved to Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood earlier this year, along with almost 2-year-old son, Owen. They are working to connect with other families and younger adults who are moving back to these changing neighborhoods.

The Hovis’ have made many life-changing adjustments in order to follow Christ on this missional journey. They resigned their staff position at an area church and Brad took a job managing an area hotel. Earlier this summer they began having monthly preview services on the Auraria College Campus across the street from the Pepsi Center. During this time, Haley became pregnant and during a routine visit, Doctors discovered abnormalities with their developing baby and warned them that their daughter would not survive. Brad and Haley chose to believe in God’s plan and invited others to pray for Baby Molly.

In July, Haley was admitted to the hospital due to premature labor – and remained there for four weeks. On August 10th, Molly was born six weeks
early…just two weeks before the DNC. Haley returned home while Molly remained in the NICU.

Because of their proximity to downtown Denver, the Hovis family agreed to open their home to the Intentional Community Evangelism Teams (ICE). ICE was one of several ministries during the DNC. Over 40 evangelists gathered at the Hovis home for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Together they distributed over 55,000 tracks and 150 people made professions of faith in Jesus Christ. Every day, Brad would go to his hotel job and Haley would go to the hospital to be near Molly.

The Hovis home was a place to rest and recharge from the summer heat. Volunteers could see the picture of Molly on the fridge and had time of prayer for Molly and their soul-winning endeavors with protestors, delegates and residents.

Molly remains in the NICU and they are asking for believers to pray for a miracle. Doctors will nourish Molly with nutrition through a vein until she is strong for enough for possible organ transplants.

High View Church, the Hovis’ church plant will begin weekly services this Fall and other men are taking on leadership roles to allow Brad time with his family and preaching responsibilities.

Colorado Baptist General Convention has established a fund to assist the Hovis’ with medical treatment for Molly and is also looking for more churches to partner with High View Church. Hope lives here.

The Hovis Family shares their thoughts on hosting the ICE Teams during the Democratic National Convention.

On people's prayers for us:

"We know that so many people are praying for a miracle in Molly's life and ultimately for her healing. As much as we would love that, we have already seen God give us many miracles along the way. The fact that she's here at all is an answer to prayer and an amazing display of God's love and faithfulness. Her short life has allowed us to see that the power of prayer is truly an amazing thing. God is definitely at work and He's using our little girl to touch the lives of everyone around her."

On the ICE Team using our house:

"People thought we were crazy for allowing the ICE Team to use our house for the week of the DNC, especially given our circumstances with Molly. We just keep thinking about how much we were able to benefit from them being here. They served as much an encouragement to our family, prayes with us and for us and left us feeling blessed that we were able to play even the smallest part in furthering the kingdom. It's just a house, but they used it well and used it for the glory of God. It was great having them here."
